Manama : General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Traffic Council, chaired the council’s meeting today.
Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy; Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications; Ibrahim bin Hassan Al Hawaj, Minister of Works; and Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education, attended the meeting.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah emphasised the importance of continuing efforts to enhance road safety, noting the Royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to protect lives and property, and the support of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The council discussed its agenda, including the project to develop a national strategy for reducing traffic congestion as part of priority government programmes. It approved appointing a consultancy firm to conduct a comprehensive study and formed a working group from the relevant authorities to coordinate efforts, assess current congestion levels, define the roles of involved entities and adopt leading practices, in preparation for a comprehensive congestion-reduction strategy.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah underlined the importance of legislative measures in addressing congestion.
The council also reviewed progress on installing smart cameras and their role in improving road safety. It was briefed on the development and expansion of Road 76 in Sakhir and discussed the need to address the accumulation of heavy trucks in residential areas.
A presentation from the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications covered the proposed link between the King Hamad Causeway and Bahrain Northern Road, as well as the GCC railway route connecting Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah expressed appreciation to council members for their continued efforts and highlighted the importance of field operations and round-the-clock readiness to ensure smooth traffic flow.
