Manama : Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development and Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB), met Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and the Economic Development Board.
The Minister emphasised on the Kingdom’s commitment to bolstering efforts to position Bahrain as a global investment destination by attracting investments across priority sectors, in line with the Kingdom’s economic diversification efforts and the “Economic Recovery Plan”.
Minister Alkhulaif commended the significant efforts made by the WTO in addressing international economic issues, emphasising on the important role that trade plays in promoting sustainable development while recognising WTO’s contribution to delivering these goals in economic and environmental domains.
The WTO Director-General commended Bahrain’s efforts in creating a business-friendly environment, making Bahrain an attractive location for investment due to its world-class infrastructure and skilled and talented workforce, which serves as a valuable asset.
The meeting reviewed the role of the Economic Development Board in attracting investments, as well as the important role that priority sectors play in revitalising the economy.
The meeting also focused on the role of the Ministry of Sustainable Development in highlighting the Kingdom’s efforts in achieving the sustainable development goals through aligning government plans and strategies to these goals.
