Manama : As part of the Ministry of Social Development’s ongoing efforts to regulate and develop the civil society sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain and enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of civil society organisations, the ministry has completed a review of the status of several registered civil society organisations that have ceased their activities and have been unable to convene their general assemblies for extended periods.
The ministry had provided the organisations concerned with an opportunity to regularise their status, and invited them to contact the Civil Society Organisations Support Directorate, update their records, and complete the necessary legal and regulatory requirements and procedures before any action was taken against them.
As a result, several organisations contacted the ministry and began correcting their status and completing their requirements, while another group remained inactive and unresponsive despite the expiry of the specified period and the opportunity provided to regularise their status.
Osama bin Saleh Al Alawi, Minister of Social Development, issued Ministerial Decision (57) of 2026 on the compulsory dissolution of several associations, as part of a batch covering civil society organisations for which the review procedures have been completed. The review of the status of inactive organisations and the necessary action against them will continue successively in accordance with the applicable legal and regulatory provisions and procedures.
The ministry is taking the necessary measures to liquidate the associations covered by the decision in accordance with the applicable legal and legislative frameworks, ensuring the completion of the procedures arising from their dissolution in accordance with the law.
The Ministry of Social Development affirmed that these measures reflect its commitment to enhancing the efficiency and organisation of the civil society sector, ensuring the effectiveness of registered organisations and their continued performance of the roles and objectives for which they were established, thereby contributing to the advancement of civil society work and its contribution to social development in the Kingdom.
