SCW highlights Bahrain’s efforts to empower, advance women

Manama : The Kingdom of Bahrain will join the world in celebrating the International Women’s Day 2024, observed worldwide on March 8 under the theme “Invest in Women: Accelerating Progress”.
 
in a report issued today, the SCW said that the global event is an opportunity for the kingdom to highlight its pioneering experience in empowering and advancing women as a result of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s far-reaching vision and confidence in the ability of Bahraini women to contribute effectively to achieving the goals of the royal comprehensive development process, supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
 
The International Women’s Day also provides an opportunity to shed light on the initiatives, programmes and plans launched by the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of HM the King, to consolidate the Bahraini women’s gains and achievements.
 
The SCW was established in 2002 as an official entity mandated with overseeing Bahraini women’s advancement and access to their full rights by implementing the equal opportunities principle, and achieving gender balance, contributing to making Bahraini women role models for endless giving and effective partners in the nation-building process.
 
At the international level, the kingdom, represented by the SCW, has managed to build high-level regional and global partnerships in many women-related issues. In this regard, the HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women’s Empowerment was launched in partnership with UN Women for two consecutive sessions. In addition, a number of the kingdom’s regional and international partners have adopted Bahrain’s experience in the fields of women’s advancement, equal opportunities and gender balance.
 
The kingdom’s women’s supportive efforts have been recognised by the international community, as reflected in granting HRH Princess Sabeeka the Arab Women Medal by the Arab League. In addition, the SCW obtained the Honorary Award for Excellence in the Field of Arab Family Care, presented by the Regional Network for Social Responsibility. Moreover, the Gulf Cooperation Council recommended using Bahrain’s experience in developing indicators related to the status of women as a guiding reference. As well as that, Manama was designated as the first capital for Arab women. And Bahrain’s candidacy for membership in the United Nations Women’s Committee and the Executive Council of UN Women was endorsed.
 
The celebration of the International Women’s Day provides a renewed opportunity for the SCW to consolidate Bahraini women’s presence in all fields, and continue its cooperation with its partners to ensure the optimal implementation of its plans to achieve the forecast goals.
 
The SCW is resolved to carry on its endeavours to enhance Bahraini women’s advancement and integration in all fields of national action, by implementing the necessary plans, strategies and initiatives.
