Manama: Yousef bin Abdulhussein Khalaf, Minister of Legal Affairs and Acting Minister of Labour, announced the implementation of a ministerial decision prohibiting work during midday for workers exposed to direct sunlight in open areas. The ban will take effect from June 15 to September 15, extending the previous two month ban to three months.
The minister noted that the extension reflects Bahrain’s commitment to continuously developing national legislation and ministerial decisions aimed at enhancing occupational health and safety and protecting the workforce from summer related illnesses.
He added that the decision aligns with the Ministry of Labour’s efforts to ensure a safe working environment and safeguard workers from heat stress, sunstroke, and other summer diseases, reducing occupational accidents during the period of rising temperatures and humidity.
The ministerial decision stipulates penalties for violations, including imprisonment for up to three months and fines ranging from BD 500 to BD 1,000, or either penalty.
