Manama : The Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf has activated its electronic system for 154 authorised marriage officials, expanding the use of a service that enables marriage contracts to be completed digitally using smart tablets.
The service covers the entire process, from the marriage contract session attended by the parties concerned and witnesses to the certification of the contract by the competent Sharia court and its electronic delivery to the parties.
Wafaa Ibrahim Al Hajri, Director of Information Technology at the ministry, said that more than 600 electronic marriage contracts had been completed since the service was launched in mid-July.
She noted that the service was initially introduced gradually to a number of authorised marriage officials before being expanded to a wider group.
Al Hajri added that, alongside the expansion, the ministry had provided training for authorised marriage officials on using the system and completing the various procedures, enhancing their readiness to operate it efficiently and helping simplify and expedite services for beneficiaries.
She explained that the service had modernised marriage contract documentation by replacing paper-based transactions with an integrated electronic system for recording contract details, completing the required procedures, obtaining certification from the competent Sharia court and making the certified contract available electronically to the parties.
Al Hajri affirmed that expanding the service forms part of the ministry’s efforts to develop judicial and Sharia services, make greater use of digital solutions to streamline procedures and improve service efficiency.
The ministry launched the digital marriage contract service as part of government efforts to improve service quality and re-engineer procedures. It enables licensed marriage officials to conclude marriage contracts using smart tablets, covering the process from the contract session attended by the parties concerned and witnesses to certification by the competent Sharia court and electronic delivery to the parties.
