Manama: The Indian School, Bahrain (ISB) successfully celebrated Book Week from February 2
to February 5, 2026, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote reading habits, creativity, and
literary appreciation among students. The week-long celebration witnessed enthusiastic
participation from students across various grades and highlighted the school’s commitment to
nurturing a culture of learning beyond textbooks. The inaugural ceremony was marked by the
traditional lighting of the lamp by the Principal VR Palaniswamy, symbolizing the illumination
of knowledge and wisdom through books. Senior Section and Academic Administration Vice-
Principal G. Satheesh, Staff Representative Parvathi Devadas, Librarian L Lakshmanan, along
with members of the teaching staff, and students attended.

A variety of literary competitions were organized to engage students and showcase their talents.
The Fancy Dress Competition for Grade IV students saw Joan Cijo (IV T) secure the first
position, followed by Nainika Jijo (IV Q) in second place and Jeff George (IV K) in third place.
The News Reading Competition for Grade V featured confident and articulate performances.
Aadhish Arunima Rakesh (V N) and Reyhan Thomas Mathew (V B) jointly won first place.
Yakshit Mukkerla (V V) secured second position, while Aadya Bijin (V D) won third place.
In the Library Logo Design Competition for Grade VI, Filza Fathima (VI B) emerged as the
winner. Hridya Heni (VI X) and Thirtha Lakshmi (VI B) secured second and third positions
respectively.

The Short Story Writing in English competition for Grade VII showcased exceptional creativity.
Upanya C. Unnikrishnan (VII A) won first place, followed by Joanna Manichan (VII J) in
second place and Vardini Jayaprakash (VII G) in third place.

For Grade VIII, the Book Review Competition highlighted students’ critical thinking skills.
Shagufta Shaikh (VIII T) secured first position, Aayush Prabodhan Desai (VIII A) won second
place, and Serah Tresa Suresh (VIII H) achieved third place.

Adding to the success of Book Week, reputed bookshops—Book Land, Book Mart, and
Bookcase—participated, offering students access to a wide range of books.

Committee Members, Principal VR. Palaniswamy and Senior School and Academic
Administration Vice- Principal G. Satheesh congratulated the winners.
