Manama : The Permanent Committee of the late His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Quran Award launched the HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Quranic Personality Award.
This award aims to recognise Bahraini men and women who have made distinctive contributions to serve the Holy Quran.
The award aims to emphasise the Holy Quran’s impact on Muslims, enhance Bahrain’s contributions to serving the Holy Quran, commemorate the memory of the late HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, as well as encourage individuals and societies to serve the Holy Quran.
Shaikha Lamia bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, President of Al Noor Charity Welfare Society and Head of the Award’s Permanent Committee, said that the award was launched among the significant initiatives made for the service of the holy Quran, supported by Her Highness Shaikha Lulwa bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Honorary president of the society.
The winners of the HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Quranic Personality Award in its first edition were Dr. Abdullatif Jassim Kanoo, and Dr. Ruqaia Taha Al Alwani, who were honoured at the closing ceremony of the late HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Quran Award.
Dr. Kanoo is a Bahraini structural engineer, writer, and researcher. He was born in Manama in 1935 and holds a PhD from the University of Texas. He initiated the idea of establishing Beit Al Quran, which was founded in Manama on March 12, 1990.
Beit Al Quran is considered one of the most distinguished cultural and Islamic centres in the Arab and Islamic world, which showcases many important and rare Quranic manuscript collections, as well as approximately 15,000 volumes in its library.
Dr. Kanoo also received The Order of Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the highest civil honour bestowed upon local innovators.
Dr. Al Alwani is an Islamic Studies Professor at the University of Bahrain (UoB) and has received regional and international recognition for her work.
She has contributed to building awareness on the message of the Holy Quran over the past 20 years through her work.
She has over 80 books and research papers published, many of which have been translated into many languages, including English, French, Turkish, German, Urdu, and others. She has recorded 103 episodes on the Quran and gave many training courses.
She is a member of distinguished Islamic studies institutions in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Malaysia, India, Turkey and other countries.
Dr. Al Alwani is currently working on an encyclopaedia on insights from the Quran.
