Manama : His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), President of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), attended the opening of the sixth edition of BRAVE International Combat Week 2024.
Held under the patronage of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad, the event is organised by BRAVE Combat Federation in cooperation with Team Bahrain. It runs from December 13 to 15 at Khalifa Sports City Arena.
The opening ceremony was attended by His Highness Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Vice President of the GSA and President of the Bahrain Combat Sports Council; His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the BOC; Mikhail Degtyaryov, Russian Minister of Sports; Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, GSA CEO; and Alexey Skosyrev, the Russian Ambassador to Bahrain.
HH Shaikh Khalid followed the event’s activities, including BRAVE CF 91, a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) championship featuring five Bahraini fighters: Hamza Kooheji; Mohamed Al Sameea; Zagid Gaidarov; Hussain Al Kurdi; and Sabrina De Souza.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad expressed pride in the launch of BRAVE International Combat Week, describing it as an international platform that elevates MMA and strengthens Bahrain’s position on the global sports map.
His Highness emphasised that the event reflects Bahrain’s vision of promoting MMA and nurturing global talent, while using sports as a tool to foster peace. His Highness commended Bahrain’s ability to host world class sporting events, reaffirming the Kingdom’s commitment to advancing sports locally and globally.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad attributed the success of the event to the continued support of Bahrain’s leadership and highlighted the Kingdom’s dedication to developing and showcasing sports talent on the international stage.
His Highness concluded by wishing success to all participants and thanking everyone involved in the event’s success.
