HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad noted that this milestone reflects the significant support provided by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

This came on the occasion of the Asian Racing Federation’s announcement to elevate the Bahrain International Trophy to Group 1 status, in a new achievement added to Bahrain’s record of success in equestrianism and horseracing.
HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad said this achievement crowns an ambitious journey that began with the race’s launch in 2019, noting that the upgrade confirms Bahrain’s advanced international standing in horseracing over seven editions, enhancing its presence on the global racing map and increasing its competitiveness among elite international races.
HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad added that the Bahrain International Trophy now enjoys a high standing and wide interest within international horseracing circles. His Highness expressed appreciation to all owners, trainers, jockeys and international stables that have supported and participated in the race across its editions, and expressed his aspiration to attract further distinguished international participation, along with top-ranked horses and jockeys from around the world for the 2026 edition.

HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad further stated that this achievement reflects Bahrain’s advanced organisational capabilities and resources, which qualify it to host major international sporting events. His Highness commended the efforts of the organising and administrative committees and national cadres whose work over the years has contributed to the strong organisational success of the Bahrain International Trophy and to achieving this international milestone.
The Bahrain International Trophy was launched in 2019 and has achieved notable success and development across its previous editions. It has received wide acclaim within international horseracing circles, alongside significant coverage from specialist horseracing media. The level of international participation has increased with leading owners, trainers, jockeys and stables, contributing to its upgrade to Group 2 status in 2023, before further advancing to Group 1 status within a relatively short period, establishing it among the world’s most prestigious horseraces.
