Manama : Under the patronage His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), and in the presence of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), the High Diving World Championship was opened at Bahrain Harbour.
Captain Husain Al Musallam, Director General of Olympic Council of Asia and President of World Aquatics, also attended the event.
HH Shaikh Khalid expressed his appreciation to HH Shaikh Nasser for his patronage and thanked the Bahrain Swimming Association, led by Captain Al Musallam, for choosing Bahrain to host the event for the first time. His Highness emphasised the significance of such championships in promoting sports tourism and strengthening Bahrain’s position as a global sporting destination.
The ceremony began with the national anthem, followed by a speech from Faris Mustafa Al Kooheji, Secretary General of BOC, who expressed his appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for their support of sports. He also thanked HH Shaikh Nasser and HH Shaikh Khalid for their leadership.
Al Kooheji highlighted the recent achievements in sports, particularly following the success at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and noted HH Shaikh Khalid’s focus on preparing for the Los Angeles Olympics to continue building on these accomplishments. He also thanked all government ministries, agencies, and private sector institutions for their support.
Captain Al Musallam then delivered a speech in which he thanked Bahrain for hosting and the event, emphasising the importance of the championship as a qualifier for the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.
