Manama : Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH), opened the 4th Bahrain International Conference of Antimicrobial Resistance and Infectious Diseases, organised by the Infectious Diseases Association of the Bahrain Medical Society in cooperation with Education Plus. The conference brings together experts and speakers from more than 25 countries, along with healthcare officials, doctors and specialists.
Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation and sharing medical and scientific expertise to address health challenges related to infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance. He highlighted the role of specialised scientific conferences in keeping up with the latest developments and supporting efforts to improve the quality of healthcare.
Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah underscored the importance of continuing to support scientific initiatives and conferences that promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise and address key health challenges. He said such efforts help strengthen the readiness of health systems and their ability to respond to emerging developments and changes.
Dr. Jameela Al Salman, Conference Chairperson and Chairperson of the Infectious Diseases Association of the Bahrain Medical Society, also spoke at the opening ceremony. She said the growing international participation in the fourth edition reflects the conference’s development over the years and the increasing focus on antimicrobial resistance and infectious diseases.
The opening ceremony included a video highlighting key milestones in the conference’s development over its previous three editions and its growing scientific participation. Supporters and sponsors were also honoured for their contributions to the conference.
The conference features a varied scientific programme covering antimicrobial resistance, pandemic preparedness, the use of artificial intelligence to support responsible antibiotic use, modern genomic sequencing techniques, as well as the latest developments in infectious diseases and ways to prevent and treat them.
