The National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) announced the conclusion of the second phase of the national campaign for afforestation “Forever Green”.
Forever Green was launched by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of NIAD, in response to the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to address climate challenges and reach zero neutrality by 2060.
The campaign completed many projects by planting more than 50,814 trees and shrubs, almost 13,589 square meters and 10,288 linear meters.
The campaign also completed 57 afforestation projects in a short time period in different municipalities and cities around the Kingdom in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture and the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE).
Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, NIAD Secretary-General, thanked the government, private and civil society institutions for their support and participation in the second phase of the campaign.
The Secretary-General said that the initiative developed a plan for the second phase in cooperation with four municipalities, which resulted in the afforestation of 32 sites in different cities and municipalities in the Kingdom.
The afforestation projects included gardens, walkways, public transportation stations, health centres, schools, parking lots, coasts and streets.
The campaign received much more participation which led to an increase in the locations of the project to up to 25 locations within the second phase of the campaign, which reflects the patriotism of the private and civil institutions to the community.
Shaikha Maram commended private institutions for their willingness to contribute to the success of the campaign which witnessed a large interaction across all phases, noting the ministry and the four municipalities’ efforts throughout the campaign.
She said that the second phase of the campaign cost 177,686 Bahraini Dinars donated by different organizations from the private sector.
Eleven agricultural companies benefited from working on these projects, leading to the development of Bahrain’s economy.
