Manama : Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, former President of the United Nations General Assembly and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador, who Antigua and Barbuda have nominated as a candidate for the next term of United Nations Secretary-General.
The meeting reviewed the growing bilateral cooperation between Bahrain and Ecuador in areas of mutual interest.
Garcés briefed Dr. Al Zayani on her campaign programme and vision for her candidacy for the position of United Nations Secretary-General.
Dr. Al Zayani reaffirmed the importance of the UN Secretary-General’s role in advancing the organisation’s efforts to promote global development and prosperity, and to maintain international peace and security.
Hatem Abdulhamid Hatem, Chief of the Organizations Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the meeting.
