Athens : Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks in Athens with Giorgos Gerapetritis, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, on the occasion of his official visit to Greece.
Minister Gerapetritis commended the longstanding ties between the two countries and the ongoing development of bilateral relations across various domains. He also congratulated the Kingdom of Bahrain on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2026–2027.
He also commended Bahrain’s standing regionally and internationally and expressed his country’s interest in expanding cooperation, coordination, and consultation in political matters, elevating it to serve the mutual interests of both countries.
On his part, Dr. Al Zayani expressed pride in the close relations between the two countries and their shared interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation. He hoped the talks would enhance cooperation in economic, trade, investment, and development domains, accelerate the implementation of existing agreements and memoranda of understanding, and explore new opportunities for further collaboration.
The Foreign Minister emphasised the importance of promoting joint political and diplomatic work between the two ministries, including support in international forums, coordination during both countries’ non-permanent membership on the UN Security Council this year, and the exchange of experiences and consultations on Council matters.
Both sides reviewed the longstanding ties between the Kingdom and Greece, means to develop cooperation in political, economic, trade, and development sectors, and the activation of signed agreements and memoranda of understanding. They also discussed encouraging private sector efforts to enhance trade and investment for the mutual benefit of both countries.
The discussions included means to advance effective cooperation during both countries’ membership on the UN Security Council, under their commitment to supporting international peace and security, upholding the rules-based international order, and promoting sustainable development and prosperity regionally and globally.
The two ministers also exchanged views on regional and international developments and their impact on regional and global peace, security, and stability, as well as efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace for all peoples of the region.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador Saeed Abdul Khaliq, Director of the Coordination and Follow-up Sector; Shaikha Al Anood bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Acting Head of the European Affairs Sector; Ambassador Ioannis Plotas, Ambassador of Greece to Bahrain, resident in the State of Kuwait; and the accompanying ministerial delegation.
