Washington : Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in a discussion session organised by the Heritage Foundation at its headquarters in Washington. The session was attended by Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the US.
The session discussed the long-standing strategic partnership between the two countries in economic, trade, defence, and development fields. The session also explored means to advance these relations towards broader horizons in support of common interests and goals.
The session included an exchange of views on the latest developments in the Middle East, ongoing conflicts and their impact on regional stability and international peace and security. The session also reviewed regional and international efforts to reduce tensions, promote coexistence and tolerance, and support peace, stability, and prosperity across the region.
The minister spoke during the session about the Arab Summit held in Bahrain in May 2024. He highlighted its key outcomes and initiatives, which reflected the Arab leaders’ commitment to achieving peace, stability, development, and joint cooperation for the benefit of all peoples in the region. He also referred to the support provided for health and education services to populations affected by conflicts in the region.
Dr. Al Zayani emphasised the importance of concerted international efforts to end all conflicts in the Middle East in order to preserve international peace, security, and stability, and to spare the region’s peoples the consequences of these conflicts. He underscored that the Palestinian cause remains the core issue of the conflict in the region and must be resolved through a just and lasting solution by establishing an independent, sovereign Palestinian state living in peace and security alongside the State of Israel.
The minister also called for an end to the war in the Gaza Strip, a commitment to a ceasefire, the swift release of hostages and detainees, and the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population.
