Manama : Major General Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa, Director General of the General Directorate of Traffic, affirmed that infrastructure development and road network expansion projects, which are based on the royal directives and followed up by the government, along with enhancing the traffic system with smart systems and cameras, have a positive impact on traffic safety, reducing traffic violations and accidents, and protecting lives and property.
The Director General of the General Directorate of Traffic explained that, with the support of the Interior Minister, the Directorate has completed the first phase of the smart system cameras as part of the plan to develop the traffic system and utilise modern technologies to enhance road safety, thereby strengthening the traffic system and compliance with traffic rules and regulations. He added that performance indicators show a noticeable decrease in traffic violations and accidents, reflecting the effectiveness of road development projects, the integration of smart systems and their positive impact on traffic safety.
He commended the increased level of traffic awareness among drivers and their commitment to traffic rules, which confirms the establishment of a culture of safe driving and the enhancement of road users’ safety. He noted that the Directorate continues to implement its plans to develop the traffic system and utilise modern technologies, affirming that protecting lives and property remains a top priority and that community partnership remains a key pillar in achieving a safe and sustainable traffic environment.
