Baghdad : Bahrain’s parliamentary delegation is participating in the meeting of the Permanent Political Committee of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), held in Baghdad, Iraq, on January 11-12. The delegation is also attending the fourth meeting of the APA Executive Council.
The agenda of the Permanent Political Committee includes discussions on eight draft resolutions addressing key topics, including good governance, the rule of law and judicial empowerment, best parliamentary practices, fostering prosperity in Asia through cooperation, collaboration between Asian parliaments and governments, harmonious development through democracy, parliamentary support for the Palestinian people, and enhancing cooperation among APA members to protect and promote multilateralism.
During its previous meeting in Antalya, Turkey, the APA Executive Council reviewed a draft resolution on parliamentary support for the Palestinian people and decided to establish a Palestine Committee. On January 10, 2024, in Tehran, Iran, the committee discussed and unanimously adopted a final statement on the current situation in Palestine. During the APA’s 14th session, the Palestinian National Council representative proposed upgrading the Palestine Committee to a permanent committee. The APA Secretariat representative indicated that this proposal would be discussed at the next Permanent Committee meeting.
