Braga : Bahrain’s national boxing team won seven medals, including four gold, one silver and two bronze, at the Braga International Open Boxing Championship, held in Portugal on July 10 – 12.
The gold medals were won by Mohammed Mubarak Hareb, Sayed Alawi Hashim, Mohammed Atiyah and Jayden Price. Mohammed Momen claimed the silver medal, while Rashid Waheed and Maryam Jassim secured bronze medals. Jayden Price was also named Best Boxer in his age category.
Rashid Isa Flayfel, President of the Bahrain Boxing Federation, said the achievement reflects the continued progress of Bahrain’s combat sports under the vision of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, and a key supporter of combat sports.
He added that the success also reflects the development strategy led by the Bahrain Combat Sports Council, chaired by HH Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Vice Chairman of the General Sports Authority, which focuses on identifying and developing talent to compete successfully on the international stage.
Flayfel noted that winning seven medals at a tournament featuring more than 700 male and female boxers from over 77 countries highlights the strength of the federation’s training programmes and its commitment to developing athletes across all age groups through international competition.
He thanked the national team’s technical and administrative staff, the athletes, and the federation’s affiliated clubs and boxing training centres for their contributions to the achievement, wishing the team continued success in future competitions.
