Manama : The Kingdom of Bahrain welcomed the joint statement issued by the foreign ministers of several European countries and Canada on introducing national and European restrictions on trade in goods with illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Gaza, in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 (2016).
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said settlement expansion undermines efforts to achieve the two state solution in accordance with relevant resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The ministry stressed the importance of proceeding with the implementation of the peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump to end the conflict in Gaza, advance recovery and reconstruction efforts, and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to achieve security and stability in the Gaza Strip.
It also underlined the importance of supporting efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace for all peoples of the region and establish an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two state solution.
