China : Work crews trying to find 47 people missing after a collapse at an open-pit mine in northern China have had to change their excavation methods to avoid causing more landslides, state media reported Friday. With a large collapsed area at the mine, the digging done by backhoes and bulldozers can risk more collapses. The crews are excavating by layers and making trapezoid-shaped descents to carry on their search from both sides of the mountain in an adjustment of their rescue plans, the report said. Manama : The Bahrain International Airport (BIA) has marked the State of Kuwait’s 62nd National Day, as an expression of the ties of distinguished kinship and historical relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples. Organisers are now searching for new venue which will be announced shortly. Sao Paulo : The death toll from heavy rains that devastated coastal areas of Brazil’s southeastern Sao Paulo state reached 57 people on Friday, official figures showed. According to Reuters, massive downpours have caused landslides and flooding in coastal towns of Brazil’s richest state since last weekend. Ankara : The death toll from the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria that struck on Feb. 6 surpassed 50,000 on Friday after Turkey declared more than 44,000 people died. The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said the death toll in Turkey due to earthquakes rose to 44,218 on Friday night, Reuters reported. With Syria’s latest announced death toll of 5,914, the combined death toll in the two countries rose to above 50,000.
