US : An appeals court in Texas upheld former Dallas police Officer Amber Guyger’s. Guyger argued she shouldn’t have been convicted of murder because she mistook neighbor Botham Jean’s apartment for her own when she walked in, saw him on the couch and fatally shot him, the Dallas Morning News reported. Navarrete, a first-term Democrat from Phoenix, was taken into custody Thursday on allegations of having sexual conduct with a minor in 2019, police told FOX 10 Phoenix. Madrid : Real Madrid and Barcelona expressed their opposition Thursday to the Spanish league’s deal with an investment fund that secured $3.2 billion in funding to help its clubs, reports AP. Chinese :  Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged 2 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines would be supplied to the world through this year, increasing China’s commitment as the largest exporter of the shots, reports AP. Xi’s announcement was delivered at the International Forum on COVID-19 Vaccine Cooperation, state media reported Wednesday, which China hosted virtually. Germany :  Bahraini citizens may travel to Germany after they show proof of a negative PCR test that does not exceed 72 hours, or recovery from COVID-19, or vaccination approved by the German authorities. Bahrain’s embassy to Germany said that the new rule has been effective since August 1. Bahrainis with vaccinations not approved by Germany must present a negative PCR test, bearing in mind that some airlines require two test certificates in addition to proof of vaccination, the embassy added. US : At least six people are dead after a sightseeing plane crashed Thursday in southeast Alaska, according to the U.S. Coast Guard report. The Coast guard said in a statement that “An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Sitka located the wreckage at 2:37 p.m. and lowered two rescue swimmers who reported no survivors.” The plane, a single-engine DeHavilland DHC-2 Beaver, took off from Misty Fjords National Monument and crashed around 11:20 a.m. in an area of steep, mountainous terrain near Ketchikan, about 300 miles southeast of Juneau. Texas : More than 800 unaccompanied migrant children were apprehended in a single day this week, as the numbers of migrants coming to the southern border continue to surge with no sign of slowing down despite the heat of the summer months. Health and Human Services announced that 834 unaccompanied children and teenagers were apprehended on Thursday, significantly higher than the 30-day average of 512. It means that there are a total 2,784 children in Customs and Border Protection (CBP) custody, and 14,523 in HHS custody. Paris : Organizers of the 2024 Paris Olympics say they will use the Eiffel Tower to unfurl “the biggest flag ever flown” on Sunday during the closing ceremony in Tokyo. Paris organizing committee president Tony Estanguet talked about the plan in Tokyo to promote the formal handover on Sunday to the next Summer Games host, reports AP.
