At least five Indian soldiers were killed and four others injured on Friday during a gunfight with suspected militants in the Himalayan Jammu and Kashmir region. The soldiers belonged to the Indian Army’s special forces and were part of a team involved in an operation after receiving information about a group of militants in the mountainous Rajouri district of Jammu. The soldiers died when “terrorists triggered explosives in retaliation” during the operation at Kesri Hill in the Kandi area of Rajouri district, an army official said. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared the global health emergency Covid-19 “over” on Friday. The announcement marks the end of a pandemic that killed nearly seven million people, devastated economies and triggered nationwide lockdowns. “It’s with great hope that I declare Covid-19 over as a global health emergency,” Dr Tedros said. “Yesterday, the Emergency Committee met for the 15th time and recommended to me that I declare an end to the public health emergency of international concern.
