Manama: The Operations Directorate of the General Directorate of Civil Defence, held a coordination meeting on managing agricultural waste fires. Representatives from the Supreme Council for the Environment, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture and the Ministry of Health attended. Ways to enhance cooperation between the competent authorities to address accidents of agricultural waste fires were discussed, the most prominent causes and impact on the environment and appropriate solutions were discussed. The latest methods of using technology in monitoring and early warning of agricultural fires, in addition to how to safely dispose of waste were also reviewed.

The province of Batanes in the Philippines is bracing for a typhoon with expected wind speeds of up to 200kph, authorities said on Monday. Typhoon Mawar has already seen nearly 5,000 villagers evacuated from coastal areas of the northernmost province and communities are undergoing near lockdown conditions, with schools and businesses closed.
