Jakarta : Two people died and 21 others were reported missing after heavy rain triggered landslides in Central Java, Indonesian officials said. The landslides struck on Thursday evening following several days of continuous rainfall, damaging dozens of homes across three villages. Abdul Muhari, Spokesperson of the National Disaster Management Agency, said unstable ground conditions were slowing search and rescue efforts, which resumed on Friday with support from heavy machinery. Indonesia regularly faces floods and landslides during the rainy season from October to March.
Antakya : A Turkish pilot died when a firefighting aircraft operated by the General Directorate of Forestry crashed in Croatia after losing contact during severe weather, Turkish authorities said. Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumaklı confirmed that the wreckage was located near the city of Sinj. The ministry said earlier that contact was lost with one of two firefighting planes that left Çanakkale on November 12 for scheduled maintenance in Zagreb. Melbourne : Indonesian and Australian leaders said Wednesday they were close to signing a new bilateral defense treaty. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the pact during the Indonesian leader’s first state visit to Australia. Ankara : A Turkish C-130 military cargo plane with at least 20 personnel on board crashed in Georgia on Tuesday after taking off from Azerbaijan. The number of casualties and the cause of the incident were not immediately clear. Initial video from the scene near the Azerbaijan border showed chunks of twisted metal strewn across a grassy knoll, with parts of the fuselage still ablaze and dark smoke rising into a clear sky.

New Delhi : A car explosion near the historic Red Fort in India’s capital on Monday killed eight people and injured at least 19 others, police in New Delhi said. The blast, which triggered a fire that damaged several vehicles parked nearby, took place near one of the gates of the Red Fort metro station, the fire services said. The cause is being investigated.
