Manama : As part of its awareness campaign on the 2024 Household Income and Expenditure Survey, the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) conducted an awareness session at the Indian Club Bahrain. The campaign, initiated in January 2024 and scheduled to continue until the end of December 2024, aims to familiarise the public with the survey objectives and process, promote community engagement, and respond to enquiries related to the survey and iGA services in general. Manama : The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) announced the implementation of 408 inspection campaigns and visits, during the period of 7 to 13 July 2024, which resulted in the detention of 58 violating and irregular workers, while 168 violators were deported. The inspection campaigns and visits also resulted in monitoring a number of violations related to the provisions of a number of regulating laws, especially the Labour Market Regulatory Authority and the Residency Laws in Bahrain, noting that legal measures were taken regarding the observed violations. Honolulu : A tour company helicopter crashed off the Hawaiian island of Kauai, police said, killing one person and leaving two missing in the latest in a series of crashes to plague the industry in recent years. The Robinson R44 helicopter was part of Ali’i Kauai Air Tours & Charters, authorities said. Kauai lifeguards on personal watercraft recovered one body from the water Thursday. Vienna : A shooting in southwestern Germany linked to a domestic dispute on Sunday left three dead and two wounded from the same family, police said. The dead included the suspected shooter, another man and a woman. Police were called to the scene in the town of Albstadt, halfway between Stuttgart and Lake Constance, shortly after noon, she said. The shooting took place in the same family, she said, adding an investigation was underway and there was no information on the motive for the shooting. The two wounded were women who were taken to a hospital in helicopters, Döttling said.
Warsaw : Polish coal miner trapped underground since Thursday was found alive by rescuers on Saturday. The Rydultowy mine in southern Poland, operated by state-controlled group PGG, was hit by a tremor at around 0600 GMT on Thursday about 1,200 metres (3,960 feet) below ground. One miner died as a result of the tremor and some 76 were brought to the surface alive by rescuers on Thursday, with 17 taken to hospital. Abuja : Twenty-two people were killed, after a two-storey school building collapsed in central Nigeria’s Plateau state. A total of 154 people were trapped under the debris, and everyone apart from those who died was rescued and is being treated for injuries in various hospitals, Sky news said citing a police spokesperson. Thirty people are still in hospital, Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said in a Facebook post, adding that rescue efforts had ended and the site cleared.
