New Delhi : India’s state-run miner NMDC is expected to extract 6,500 carats of diamonds, worth $3.4 million, this fiscal year from ores in a mine near a tiger reserve, after receiving mining clearances last year, two sources said. The miner faced delays in securing environmental clearances and had to halt mining for over three years at the Panna mine in the central state of Madhya Pradesh due to its proximity to the tiger reserve. Jiuquan : China on Monday launched a CERES-1 carrier rocket with five satellites onboard. The rocket blasted off at 6:11 p.m. (Beijing Time) from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China and sent a group of satellites, including the Yunyao-1 37-40 and JTX-A-05 models, into their planned orbits. The four satellites, Yunyao-1 37-40, are all equipped with the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) occultation payload, which can obtain information on atmospheric temperature, humidity, pressure and ionospheric electron density. Manama : The Ministry of Labour and the General Organisation for Social Insurance issued a joint statement addressing updates regarding cases related to the Home Based Business programme “Khatwa” (Step). The organisation emphasised that programme participants who added previous service periods and met the requirements for practising their activity under applicable laws and regulations continue to receive their retirement pensions. This group comprises 114 individuals. Jakarta : A landslide in Pekalongan, Central Java, Indonesia, has left 16 people dead and 10 injured, according to initial reports.  Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency stated that the landslide was triggered by heavy rainfall in the area. Istanbul : A fire at a hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort in northwest Turkey killed 66 people and injured 51 others, according to preliminary figures. The governor of Bolu, Abdulaziz Aydin, said that the fire broke out on the fourth floor of the 11-storey hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort at around 12:30 am (0030 GMT) on Tuesday.
