Saudi Arabia has announced that Eid Al-Fitr will start on Sunday (May 24) in the country. The sighting committee in the Tumair observatory said the crescent moon was not sighted on Friday night. Eid al-Fitr celebrations follow the sighting of the crescent moon, ending the holy month of Ramadan and the dawn-to-dusk fasting of millions of Muslims. Muslims follow a lunar calendar consisting of 12 months in a year of 354 or 355 days. All the travelers coming to the United Kingdom, from June 8th onwards have to self-isolate for 14 days. This was announced by the British Home Secretary Priti Patel on Friday. “The new arrivals will be required to provide their address and contact details should authorities need to trace them and that the quarantine was mandatory,” she added. “There will be penalties for those who break these mandatory measures.”
Saudi Arabia saw a steep increase in the daily number of coronavirus cases with 2,642 new infections reported during the past 24 hours, raising the total to 67,719, according to the health ministry. There were 2,963 recoveries on Thursday, taking the overall number of recovered cases to 39,003, according to the MOH. Bahrain has reported 164 new COVID-19 cases, of which 94 are among expatriate workers, 56 are contacts of active cases and 2 are travel-related. These new cases bring up the total cases in the kingdom to 8,338 and there are 4,322 active cases of which 7 are critical and the rest stable, according to the Ministry of Health. There are currently 31 COVID-19 cases receiving treatment. MOH also reported 131 new recoveries from COVID-19, bringing the total recoveries in the country to 4,004. The first repatriation flight from Bahrain to Thiruvananthapuram flew from the Bahrain International Airport, as a part of the Vande Bharat Mission to evacuate Indians from foreign countries. The flight will land at Trivandrum International Airport.
