Paramaribo : Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), participated in the 8th International Cooperation Conference of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), which was held in Suriname.
The conference was held under the title “Propelling the Greater Caribbean Through Pathways for Sustainable Development”.
Albudaiwi affirmed that the GCC’s efforts to harness all available resources and potentials to achieve development for its member states and the world as a whole.
The secretary general said that the convening of this forum is of great importance in exploring ways that can help achieve the requirements of decent living, effective participation in the economic decision-making process, and addressing the increasing challenges we face today, which necessitates working together to confront these challenges and bear shared responsibility.
He also emphasised that participation in this conference affirms the council’s keenness to develop close cooperation with the Caribbean Community, as affirmed in the joint ministerial meeting of the GCC and the Caribbean Community held on September 18, 2023, in New York.
During the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding and adopted a joint action plan that outlines the main objectives and mechanisms for political, trade, investment, and tourism cooperation.
“The General Secretariat of the GCC, since its establishment, has been working on enhancing international cooperation with friends, partners, regional and international organisations, with the aim of achieving the common interests of all parties,” Albudaiwi said.
“We are confident that the GCC member states and the Caribbean possess promising potential and investment opportunities, distinguished geographic location, and a large economic and consumer market.”
The secretary general highlighted that development banks and investment funds affiliated with the GCC countries have already engaged and worked with many countries in the Caribbean region, making this achievement a source of pride for all of us.
