Jeddah : His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa delivered a speech at the 32nd Arab Summit held in Saudi Arabia today.
Below is the translation of the speech:
In the name of Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, President of the Arab Summit,
Your Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister,
Your Majesties, Excellencies and Your Highnesses,
Your Excellency the Secretary General of the Arab League,
May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon you,
We meet today, hosted by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, to reiterate our resolve to continue joint Arab action with free will, determination and sincere collaboration; to consolidate stability, prosperity and harmony that our peoples must live in. Our means to achieve that is the approach of fair and comprehensive peace, which is an irreplaceable approach, to resolve all pending issues and ensure security, stability, and vital interests for the prosperity of all countries in the region; with no exception.
We wholeheartedly welcome the dedicated Arab efforts, in which we find promise to establish a renewed and balanced regional dynamic, as seen in the resumption of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the continuation of the humanitarian truce in Yemen and the serious efforts to resolve its crisis, and the return of Syria to the Arab League.
In this regard, we affirm the importance of ending armed clashes in Sudan, restoring its security and stability and preserving its legitimate rights and that of Egypt in the water of the River Nile; as well as continuing the peace process to reach a fair solution to the Palestinian issue, which is the two-state solution in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative to ensure the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Our Arab Nation, with its deep-rooted history and religious, humanitarian and cultural values, human capital and talent, distinguished strategic location, and diverse natural resources; is capable of progress to keep pace with the momentum of the current era through enhancing Arab integration, renewing its strategic partnerships with friends and allies that are based on serving mutual interests, and a consensual vision and more effective policies to counter terrorism, stop wars and the threats of weapons of mass destruction, in order to have a stable region in which humanitarian, religious and cultural values prosper.
We voice our sincere wishes for the success of our joint efforts in achieving peace between Russia and the Ukraine, to restore security and peace for the people of the two countries and their neighbouring countries, and for the world’s economy and environment to recover from the toll of war.
We are also hopeful for the success of the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference (COP 28), which will convene in the United Arab Emirates in the end of this year.
We thank the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for this kind invitation and generous hospitality. We extend our deepest gratitude to them for the significant Saudi diplomatic efforts and effective humanitarian initiatives that contribute to the return of security and stability to the countries of the region and preserving their sovereignty and unified stances.
We also thank His Excellency President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria for his contributions to the enhancement of joint Arab action during the presidency of Algeria of the 31st Arab Summit. We also express our appreciation to the Secretary General of the Arab League and all members of the General Secretariat for their efforts in organizing this meeting.
We pray to Allah the Almighty that this summit will be successful, so we achieve the objectives we are pursuing for the benefit and prosperity of our countries and people.
It is also my pleasure, as I end this speech, to welcome you in the Kingdom of Bahrain for the next Arab Summit in 2024.
