Bhubaneswar, September 21, 2026: Bahrain-based corporate leader and social worker Dr. Arun Kumar Praharaj received the “Excellence in Social Service & Entrepreneurship” award at the Times Icons of Odisha 2026 ceremony, organised by The Times of India at Mayfair Hotel in Bhubaneswar.
The event recognised contributions across various fields and brought together prominent personalities from across Odisha. Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati graced the occasion and presented honours to the recipients.
Dr. Praharaj, CEO of the Dadabhai Group of Companies and Founder of the Bahrain Odia Samaj, was recognised for his contributions to community welfare, migrant support and entrepreneurship. Owing to prior commitments and the prevailing situation in West Asia, he was unable to attend the ceremony. An appointed representative accepted the award on his behalf.
Expressing gratitude to The Times of India and the jury, Dr. Praharaj said: “I accept this recognition not merely as an honour, but as a commitment and responsibility to serve society with even greater dedication.”
From humble beginnings, Dr. Praharaj has built a career in corporate leadership while maintaining an active role in supporting the Indian community in Bahrain.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he coordinated relief efforts with the Indian Embassy, helped organise repatriation flights to Odisha and supported Indian nationals facing difficulties abroad. According to a statement announcing the recognition, he also opened his home to 25 Odias during the recent Iran crisis, providing shelter and support.
His community work extends to promoting Odisha’s cultural heritage and local enterprises internationally. He has supported the state’s One District One Product (ODOP) initiative through platforms at the Indian Embassy and an exhibition at the King Hamad Global Centre, helping showcase Odisha’s products and micro-enterprises.
His previous recognitions include an appointment by Vishva Odisha as Honorary Goodwill Ambassador for the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Shrambandhu Samman for his work supporting migrants and representing their concerns.
Guided by his belief that “Service to humanity is service to God,” Dr. Praharaj said the recognition reinforced his commitment to serving society.
