Manama : Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the role of Bahraini women in diplomacy, describing them as key partners in promoting peace, dialogue, mutual understanding and multilateral cooperation in support of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s foreign policy priorities and humanitarian values under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
On the occasion of the International Day for Women in Diplomacy, the Foreign Minister extended congratulations to Bahrain’s leadership and to Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW).
Dr. Al Zayani commended the achievements of Bahraini women in diplomacy and national development, attributing their progress to the Kingdom’s leadership, government policies, and the initiatives of the SCW led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa.
He noted that women comprise around 37% of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs workforce and 38% of Bahrain’s diplomatic corps, while representing half of the graduates of the Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa Academy for Diplomatic Studies. He also highlighted the election of Shaikha Haya bint Rashed Al Khalifa as the first Arab and Muslim woman to serve as President of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Foreign Minister said Bahraini women continue to contribute to multilateral diplomacy, preventive diplomacy and mediation, including through Bahrain’s membership of the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term and its membership on the Executive Board of UN Women for 2026-2028. He also highlighted their contributions to international initiatives that promote coexistence, tolerance and women’s empowerment, including the Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women’s Empowerment.
Dr. Al Zayani reiterated Bahrain’s commitment to advancing women’s participation in decision making and diplomacy, stressing the importance of their contributions to international peace and sustainable development.
