Manama : Zain Bahrain, a leading telecommunications innovator in the Kingdom of Bahrain, has launched the fifth edition of the National E-Waste Competition, in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) and the Ministry of Education.
The initiative reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, environmental responsibility, and its role in supporting Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
The competition aims to encourage school students across the Kingdom to collect electronic waste and dispose of it safely and responsibly, while promoting innovation in developing effective recycling solutions.
Amina Hamad Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive Officer of the SCE, highlighted the importance of the competition, describing it as a leading platform for raising environmental awareness among students in Bahrain. She stressed that the Council is keen to support initiatives that help instil a culture of sustainability and proper waste management practices from an early age.
Al Rumaihi explained that recycling plays a vital role in protecting the environment and preserving natural resources by reducing pollution and minimising the environmental impact of waste. She noted that electronic waste is one of the most hazardous types of waste due to its toxic and heavy materials, which can harm ecosystems if not handled properly.
The National E-Waste Competition has achieved remarkable success in its previous editions. During its fourth edition, the initiative collected around 8.6 tonnes of electronic waste, strengthening its position as a national platform for environmental awareness and community engagement.
Now in its fifth year, the competition continues to grow, with more than 30 schools from across the Kingdom participating, reflecting the strong enthusiasm and engagement of students in environmental preservation efforts.
