Manama : Space engineer Aysha Al Haram, Chief Satellite Design Department at the National Space Science Agency (NSSA), was honored by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) after winning the prestigious global award for the youth sector in space, “Young Space Leaders.”
She is the first Bahraini and Arab to receive this award, announced during the 75th International Astronautical Congress held in Milan, Italy.
Al Haram said: “My feelings today are indescribable. Raising the flag of the Kingdom of Bahrain on the award platform in front of over 11,000 participants at the space congress is a great honor. Winning the Young Space Leaders award, which is the largest prize dedicated to youth in the space sector, is a pivotal moment in my life, filled with pride as I raised my country’s flag to be the first Arab flag to fly at this global event. It is an indescribable moment of pride and honour.”
“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks and immense gratitude to the National Space Science Agency (NSSA), represented by its executive management and board of directors, for their unwavering support throughout this journey. This achievement would not have been possible without their belief in me and their continuous support for the young Bahraini talents,” she added.
“I also want to thank everyone who supported and encouraged me to reach this significant moment. This recognition is not just for me; it is an accomplishment for every Bahraini striving to elevate their country’s name in international arenas. I also feel a great responsibility on my shoulders, and this victory motivates me to continue working and dedicating myself to achieve more accomplishments that raise the name of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the space sector.”
This annual award is presented to young leaders in the space sector who have demonstrated excellence at a global level, made a significant impact in the advancement of space sciences, and led in scientific research, academic contributions, or early professional work.
They also support other youth in their communities by sharing knowledge and experiences and have contributed to the activities of the International Astronautical Federation.
