Washington : Donald Trump, US President and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Brazilian President, discussed trade, the economy and fighting organised crime in a phone call both sides said.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, President Trump said he and President Lula “had a great talk”.
Brazil’s presidential palace said in a statement that President Lula thanked President Trump for his decision to remove additional tariffs on US imports of Brazilian goods including coffee and beef. The statement added that Brazil seeks to progress on talks about products still affected by the levies.
During the call, which the Brazilian presidential palace called “very productive,” President Lula also stressed the urgency of strengthening cooperation with the United States to fight international organised crime.
Last Month, President Trump removed the 40% tariffs on several Brazilian food products, which also included cocoa and fruits.
