New York : The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) is preparing to end its mandate on December 31, after more than two decades of service.
Mohammed Al Hassan, Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq, briefed members for the last time as the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI), during which he reviewed the latest report on the work of the mission.
Al Hassan affirmed in the briefing that UNAMI’s departure does not mark an end to the Iraq-UN partnership, but it represents the start of a new chapter rooted in Iraq’s leadership of its own future, according to the UN News website.
He said the United Nations will continue to stand by Iraq to build on its hard-won gains, providing technical expertise, advice and support.
