East Alton : Two people were killed when a helicopter crashed onto a cargo barge in the Mississippi River near East Alton, Illinois, according to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the barge was unoccupied at the time of the crash. Commercial navigation on the river was temporarily suspended following the incident.
East Alton is located approximately 32 kilometres north of St. Louis.
