Washington : US President Donald Trump signed an executive order preventing individual US states from adopting their own regulations on artificial intelligence, warning that differing state rules risk creating regulatory gridlock as the United States competes with China for technological leadership.
The decision comes despite calls from lawmakers, civil liberties groups and consumer advocates for tighter oversight of AI technologies. Trump said centralised federal approval is necessary to avoid fragmented requirements across 50 states.
