Manama: The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) celebrated Tamil Day with great enthusiasm on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the Isa Town campus. The event, organized by the Department of Tamil, marked the occasion of Thai Pongal, the multi-day harvest festival cherished by the Tamil community.
The celebration featured a vibrant array of cultural performances and engaging activities, highlighting the significance of Tamil heritage. It was a joyful gathering that brought together students and faculty in festive unity.
ISB Hon. Secretary V. Rajapandian inaugurated the celebrations in the presence of Hon. Asst.Secretary & Hon. Member-Academics Ranjini Mohan, Principal VR Palaniswamy, Senior School & Academic Administration Vice-Principal G. Satheesh, Middle Section Vice-Principal Jose Thomas, Staff Representative Parvathi Devadas, Head Teachers, Heads of Departments and students. The event was coordinated by HoD Vibi Sarath and Tamil Teacher Mutharasi Arun kumar.
Hon. Secretary V Rajapandian lighted the traditional lamp. In his presidential address, he emphasized the beauty and significance of the Tamil language, with its rich heritage of ancient literature. The ceremony began with the national anthems of Bahrain and India, followed by school prayer. A semi-classical dance performance was showcased by Uma Eswari, Booja Strisa Thilip Kumar, Merlin Anita Sam, Cheryl Chella Isaac and A. Karunya, captivating the audience with their graceful moves. The entertainment continued with a lively folk dance performance by M.S Thiyana, Jensilin Dhaas, Poojaashree Ayyanar, Shruthilaya Aravind, Jelena A.S, Annie Precilla, Christa Debora and Shri Santhoshini, adding vibrant energy to the celebration. The masters of ceremonies were Nithika Ashok,Varshini Prabakaran and Jimhans Gnana Jegan Selva Subha.Tamil Day speeches were presented by Merlin Anita Sam,Guhan Karthikeyan,Rithish Sasikumar,Nithika Ashok and Varshini Prabakaran.
ISB Honorary Chairman Adv.Binu Mannil Varughese, Honorary Secretary V. Rajapandian, Executive Committee members, and Principal VR Palaniswamy congratulated the students for their enthusiastic participation. They also commended the teachers for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the smooth coordination and success of the event. Following are the winners in various competitions:
