Geneva : Mohammed bin Thamer Al Kaabi, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, participated in the opening of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2024, held on 30 May in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Minister highlighted Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to further develop its digital infrastructure and strengthen public-private partnerships to support innovation and entrepreneurship in the technology sector.
Minister Al Kaabi noted that Bahrain aims to become a regional hub for innovation and technology. He added that the Kingdom is working on implementing a national AI strategy, as outlined in the Sixth National Telecommunications Plan, which focuses on developing digital infrastructure, enhancing technological capabilities, and supporting AI research and development. The strategy also aims to improve government and private sector services using AI technologies, encourage private sector innovation, and support startups and entrepreneurs to build an advanced and sustainable digital society, positioning Bahrain as a leading technology hub in the region.
The Minister emphasised the importance of global platforms like the WSIS Forum to foster dialogue and cooperation in technology and AI for optimal utilisation of these technologies.
The summit aimed to exchange ideas and expertise among participants and build strategic partnerships to accelerate digital transformation. It brought together experts in technology, AI, and innovation to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing modern digital societies.
The summit showcased several AI initiatives to underscore the importance of adopting modern technologies to achieve sustainable development and enhance the digital economy. It also featured workshops and interactive sessions, enabling participants to explore the latest innovations and technologies in the field of AI.
