Manama : Mohammed Khalid Al Hazza, Acting Attorney-General and Chief of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), announced that the unit received 12 complaints during the final third of 2024, all within its specialised jurisdiction.
The SIU heard statements from 25 complainants and witnesses, interrogated 20 Public Security Forces members, and referred seven complainants to forensic and psychological support.
The unit completed an investigation into a social media complaint, leading to the prosecution of a Public Security Forces member. On November 13, 2024, the Minor Criminal Court sentenced him to six months in prison, a ruling upheld by the Appeals Court.
Investigations in two other cases confirmed allegations, resulting in the referral of two Public Security Forces members to the Military Courts Directorate for disciplinary action.
Disciplinary measures were also issued against two other members in cases previously referred to the Military Courts Directorate.
On December 10, 2024, the SIU organised a session in collaboration with the UN Development Programme. Coinciding with Human Rights Day and the 40th anniversary of the UN Convention Against Torture, the session highlighted Bahrain’s human rights efforts, legislative advancements, and strategies for future improvements, with 60 participants from law enforcement and civil society.
