Washington : SpaceX’s Starship spacecraft exploded on Thursday moments after liftoff, marking another failed test for what the company describes as the most powerful rocket in human history.
SpaceX stated that the spacecraft broke apart during its eighth test launch from the company’s spaceport in Texas, causing a loss of communication. The company attributed the failure to an unscheduled rapid disassembly during the burn phase.
The company confirmed that it has begun coordinating with safety officials to implement emergency response measures as planned. It will review test data to determine the primary cause of the failure, emphasising that setbacks serve as learning opportunities to enhance the spacecraft’s reliability.
SpaceX considers Starship a key asset for future space missions, highlighting its full reusability and capability to transport crew and cargo to Earth’s orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
The previous Starship test, the seventh, also ended in failure, prompting SpaceX to implement hardware and operational modifications to improve future performance.
