Ankara : His Excellency Lee Jae Myung, President of the Republic of Korea, and His Excellency President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of the Republic of Türkiye, held a summit during which the two leaders agreed to expand economic cooperation in the defence, nuclear energy and biotechnology sectors.
HE President Lee expressed hope of strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership and developing it into a more future-oriented and mutually beneficial relationship. He highlighted Türkiye’s Altay main battle tank programme, based on South Korea’s K2 tank technology, as an example of the cooperative ties between the two countries.
HE President Lee also underscored South Korea’s advanced nuclear energy capabilities as part of efforts to support the state-run Korea Electric Power Corporation in its bid to participate in Türkiye’s upcoming nuclear power plant project in the city of Sinop on the Black Sea coast.
The two leaders further agreed to deepen strategic cooperation in emerging domains, including renewable energy, artificial intelligence and digital technologies.
On the sidelines of the summit, South Korea and Türkiye signed three agreements, including a memorandum of understanding on nuclear energy cooperation between Türkiye’s TUNAS nuclear energy company and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).
