Manama : Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Director General of the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, extended congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr.
Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid expressed appreciation for the royal decree issued by His Majesty the King pardoning a number of inmates, including several beneficiaries of the alternative sentencing and open prisons programmes.
In line with the royal directives to expand the implementation of the Alternative Sentencing Law, the General Directorate, following coordination with the Public Prosecution and the approval of the sentencing enforcement judge, replaced the sentences of 266 individuals who met the legal requirements for eligibility. Additionally, 55 inmates were admitted into the first phase of the open prisons programme. This brings the total number of beneficiaries since the law’s introduction in 2018 to 8,278.
Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid highlighted the keenness of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to ensuring an integrated justice system that supports the reintegration of beneficiaries into society. He described the Alternative Sentencing Programme as a distinguished example of Bahrain’s commitment to human rights, reflecting noble humanitarian values.
He also commended the follow up of General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, on the implementation of the programme. He lauded the Minister’s instructions to ensure the availability of rehabilitation and training services as part of the continued expansion of the law’s application.
Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid expressed his appreciation to government entities and national institutions for their support in providing training and rehabilitation initiatives. He emphasised the directorate’s continued commitment to enhancing and modernising its programmes to further improve reintegration outcomes for beneficiaries.
