Manama : As part of his official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, His Excellency Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyrus, inaugurated the new Cypriot Embassy in Manama.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Abdullah bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce and Head of the Honorary Mission, alongside the accompanying delegation.
HE the President cut the ribbon, unveiled the commemorative plaque, and toured the embassy facilities. The Bahraini Royal Anthem and the Cypriot National Anthem were then played.
Dr. Andreas Eliades, Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Kingdom of Bahrain, delivered a speech noting that the opening of the embassy coincides with the official visit of the President. He highlighted the commitment of the leadership of both countries to strengthening bilateral relations and welcomed the agreements signed during the visit, which mark a new phase in the strategic partnership between the two nations across several sectors, including defense and security, culture, higher education, trade and investment, tourism, and maritime security.
The ambassador affirmed that the inauguration of the Cypriot Embassy in Manama reflects the shared commitment to advance political and diplomatic cooperation, promote trade and investment, enhance educational and cultural exchange, strengthen people-to-people ties, and provide professional consular services to both Cypriot and Bahraini citizens.
Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, also delivered a speech welcoming the President of Cyprus and expressing confidence that the official visit would constitute a new milestone in the long-standing friendship between the two countries. He emphasised that the opening of the embassy, alongside the visit of the President, would contribute to elevating bilateral partnership and opening new horizons for cooperation across various domains.
He further noted that, with the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Cyprus assuming the presidencies of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Council of the European Union, respectively, the coming period represents an important opportunity to strengthen relations between the two regions, particularly in advancing negotiations toward a free trade agreement between the GCC and the European Union.
The ceremony was attended by Ambassador Rami Saleh Wreikat Al Adwan, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the Kingdom of Bahrain; several ambassadors accredited to the Kingdom of Bahrain; Ambassador Khalid Yousef Al Jalahma, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Republic of Cyprus, residing in Tel Aviv; and several officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
