A pharmacy was closed for hiking the prices of sanitisers, profiting from the exceptional conditions resulting from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) according to BNA.
The pharmacy was found to be hiking the price of the 250-millilitre hand sanitizer by 81 percent and the 500-millilitre one by 105% in profit margin gaming soaring demand on such necessary products.
The pharmacy which is located in the area of Riffa was found in breach of Law 35 of 2019 on consumer protection, said the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism in a statement yesterday.
The ministry slammed the greedy hiking of prices as an irresponsible and unacceptable act that deprived people of necessary goods, thus exploiting these circumstances, without heeding public interest.
The ministry reiterated the resolve to continue its clampdown to ensure the commitment of all pharmacies, shops, markets, and trading outlets to affordable prices, warning the violators would face legal measures.
