Manama : Ten swimmers won the first competition of the seventh edition of the Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Sports Season, represented by freestyle swimming (heritage swimming).
The new competition was held yesterday morning, Friday, in two rounds in the marine area located opposite the Bahrain National Museum between Manama and Muharraq. The competition was designated for the age group between 30 and 60 years.
In the first round for the age group between 30 and 45 years for a distance of 1000 meters, Mohammed Al-Dosari won first place, while Mohammed Jafan came in second place, leaving third place to the competitor Hamad Al-Mansouri. Then Ahmed Al-Humaidi came in fourth place, and Ahmed Abdullah came in fifth.
Swimmer Sand Bahr won first place in the second round for the 46-60 age group for a distance of 800 meters, while Abdulrahman Jassim came in second place, Jamal Al-Dosari came in third place, Nawaf Al-Atawi came in fourth place, and finally, Mishaal Al-Dosari came in fifth place.
The Nasser bin Hamad Season for Marine Heritage Sports is considered one of the most prominent competitions organized by the Bahrain Committee for Popular Heritage Sports, as it includes multiple competitions held over a period of 3 months with the aim of reviving the marine heritage that Bahrain has been famous for since ancient times and has made it an important regional center for pearl fishing.
In addition to open water swimming, the seventh edition of the Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Sports Season includes a fishing competition (Haddaq) and rowing races for heritage boats in the 30-foot category, in addition to the breath-holding competition, which is another new event held for the first time this year.
