Manama : Following the approval of the service proposed in the Government Innovation Competition (Fikra), launched by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the National Ambulance Centre launched the first responder ambulance motorcycle service. This service is part of developing mechanisms to enhance effectiveness and swift response for emergencies, especially in areas with traffic jams and narrow roads in all governorates.
The procedures to reach the accident site consist of two main phases. The first stage involves deploying first responder units via ambulance motorcycles through the National Ambulance Operations Room when calling the emergency hotline (999). Priority is given to accidents in areas that are difficult to reach with ambulance vehicles due to narrow streets or traffic congestion.
In the second stage, the “response stage,” immediate emergency services are provided, including cases of cardiac and respiratory arrest, accidents and injuries, all types of bleeding, convulsions, drowning, severe choking, as well as fainting, low blood sugar, and emergency childbirth. Coordination with conventional ambulance services for backup and transport will be made if necessary.
An integrated team of paramedics with motorcycle driving licenses received intensive training in on-road ambulance services, tailored to meet the requirements for swift emergency response.
