Madrid : His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, King of Jordan and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez committed to establishing a strategic partnership, enhance bilateral cooperation and work together to pursue regional and global peace, stability and prosperity.
In a joint statement issued following their talks in Madrid, the two parties affirmed their commitment to developing a stronger multilateral system and a rules-based international order to face global challenges, Jordanian news agency PETRA reported.
The Jordanian monarch and Spanish prime minister also agreed to coordinate efforts between the Jordanian Co-Presidency of the Union for the Mediterranean and the Spanish rotating Presidency of the European Union.
They expressed their joint resolve to counter terrorism, radicalisation and extremism in all its forms, including the financing of terrorism, which remains one of the main threats to international security. In this context, they stressed the importance of the values of peace, moderation, coexistence, and respect among peoples.
The statement said that the two sides agreed that the climate emergency constitutes a direct and existential threat to the global community and to human livelihoods, which requires strong and ambitious action by all countries.
Furthermore, the international peacebuilding and security architecture of the United Nations requires new international alliances, incorporating new technologies, artificial intelligence and technological diplomacy, the statement said, adding that the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) needs to become one of the leading actors in this process.
