Manama : Following the royal order issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa designating 2026 as the “Year of Isa Al Kabeer” in honour of Bahrain’s founder of the modern state and key figure in its institutional development, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, chaired a meeting of “Year of Isa Al Kabeer” committee.
The committee’s formation follows the decision of the Cabinet, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to establish a dedicated body to oversee the commemorations under the chairmanship of the Minister of Interior.
The committee underscored the government’s steadfast commitment to activating the royal order and ensuring that 2026 serves as a fitting tribute to the legacy of His Highness Isa Al Kabeer, who ruled Bahrain and its dependencies from 1869 to 1932.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah commended the royal order and noted that this initiative represents an extension of the leadership’s approach to valuing national history. He emphasised that the designation reflects the Kingdom’s deep appreciation for its historical political figures and its dedication to preserving Bahrain’s modern history and national heritage.

The minister explained that the “Year of Isa Al Kabeer” represents a national and historical occasion carrying profound values and principles, which are being translated into tangible achievements on the ground.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah highlighted that each government entity has been tasked with preparing initiatives and proposals that reflect the significance of this milestone. He noted that the planned events, which will include a wide range of media and cultural activities, will extend throughout the year and cover all governorates of the Kingdom.
The committee also agreed to form a follow-up working team to oversee the execution of these plans and to study several initiatives aimed at commemorating the life of HH Isa Al Kabeer in a manner that truly embodies his historic milestones and enduring legacy.
